Several weeks ago,  while in a discussion with a coworker, I found myself saying/doing something that before gave me no pause.  “Well, I hope your new job offer works out well for you, knock on wood (while knocking on wood!).”  Have you ever knocked on wood or maybe crossed your fingers in the hope that a good thing will continue to occur after it has been acknowledged?  That knock on wood was a splash of cold water in my face, a chilling moment of realizing that the simple superstitious act totally betrayed my own belief that God is in control.   And what did such a superstitious action say to the person in my presence?  Did my reference to superstition or fate give any evidence of my faith in the Lord; my trust in God’s sovereinty; my total lack of belief in luck?  Last week, while in conversation at work, ‘knock on wood’ was on the tip of my tongue and the tip of my knuckles ( I mean my knuckles were bent and ready to hit that wood!), but I found, instead, the wonderful opportunity to share my desire for God’s blessing and direction on the person’s endeavors.

In posts to follow, we’ll explore the color and texture of our tapestries as they are woven.  Now mind you, our tapestries are sure to have pulled threads, even holes in places…our tapestries are dependent on our obedience to God!  I’m a very visual person and enjoy employing ordinary, everyday sights, sounds, and happenings in the application of God’s Word to our lives.
